Breathing

Picture of a lady breathing

One in three disabled people have ‘impairment of stamina, breathing or fatigue’, according to the government’s own research on disability (citizen-network.org). With Chronic Illness Inclusion a new term has been developed called ‘energy impairment’ because many sufferers find there is too much negative cultural baggage around the terms ‘fatigue’ and ‘stamina’.

Additionally, according to government data, “impairment of stamina, breathing or fatigue” is the second largest impairment group among disabled people in the UK.

However, as a group they are rarely seen as disabled people. Medical classification systems carve them up into specialisms: neurological, rheumatological, etc. They erase the lived experience they all share of energy limitation.

This is a link to the Breathworks Mindfulness YouTube channel. This channel can provide you with information about how to be in control of your mindfulness and breathing, which can support you both mentally and physically.

Something everyone does every minute of every day can be key to everyone’s wellbeing, especially when they have an energy limiting condition. Every-One have produced a podcast, hosted on Podbean, about this subject area, it is called And…. breathe!
