Shower chairs can be used by people who cannot stand for long periods of time when showering; they may also reduce the risk of slips and falls. They are usually height adjustable and should be set to a height that makes rising from sitting to standing relatively easy.

• Consider whether there is adequate space in the shower area to accommodate a seated person.
• Think about the weight tolerance of the cubicle floor. The shower tray must be sturdy and strong; thinner trays are at risk of damage or cracking.
• Ensure seat is on a level flat surface and not resting on a lipped edge and would therefore be at risk of tipping.
