Gadgets, Tools and Technology House

As we grow older or have an illness or disability, jobs at home can feel hard. Small changes can help. The right gadgets, tools and technology can make life easier. They help us stay safe, healthy, and able to do things for ourselves.

The Gadgets, Tools and Technology House shows things that can help at home.

Click on a room or a button under the house, to see what could help you do things for yourself, or things that could help you stay well. When you click on a picture in the rooms, it will tell you at the bottom of the page what it is, what is good about it, and what you need to think about when buying or using it.

General considerations for using gadgets, tools and technology in your home:

Number of devices that are using Wi-Fi: this may impact performance in homes where Wi-Fi is poor.
What happens in a power cut/Wi-Fi outage: Is this something that is regularly experienced in your home? If so, think about whether you need a back up plan.
Type of Wi-Fi: Check the band of your Wi-Fi to make sure your devices will work with it.
How does the smart TEC work: If you want lots of devices to work together, you need to make sure they can be linked. Think about what you want them to do and make sure they will be able to do that. Are they all linked through a smart speaker, a hub or an app? Think about whether you can do this yourself or need someone to help you.
