In this section, you can find information on learning opportunities across Greater Lincolnshire, apprenticeships and how to access these, volunteering, employment agencies and websites, and benefits your may be entitled to receive.

It is expected that full-time education is compulsory for all children between the ages of 5 and 16.  In England there is an expectation that children will remain in education, employment or training until the age of 18. Details of the national curriculum can be found via the Gov.uk website.

Benefits related Holiday Activities

HAF the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) is a government funded programme that provides free holiday clubs for reception to year 11 pupils in receipt of benefits-related free school meals in Lincolnshire, these can be accessed over the summer, Christmas and Easter holidays. The Lincolnshire Adult Skills and Family Learning Service provided by 2aspire offer a wide range of courses supporting and enabling people to enhance their quality of life and opportunities. Courses are delivered in community venues, local colleges, schools, children’s centres, and online. Some courses are specifically designed to support parents and their families, available daytime, evenings, and weekends.

Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses of at least 60 hours of training giving people the opportunity to gain new skills. If you take part in a Skills Bootcamp, the training provider will support you to:

  • Get a job with a local employer
  • Progress with your current employer
  • Win new contracts for your business

Apprenticeships

Volunteering can provide many opportunities, whether to progress into employment, to gain experiences and explore interests in something new or as a hobby, there are many ways to volunteer and lots of organisations that would appreciate your time!

Jobseekers Allowance 

Jobseeker's Allowance is an unemployment benefit for people who are actively seeking work. There are two types:

  1. New Style Jobseeker's Allowance: This is based on your National Insurance contributions and is not means-tested. You can receive it for up to 6 months.
  2. Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance: This is means-tested and based on your income and savings. However, it has largely been replaced by Universal Credit.

To qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance, you must be:

  • Unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week.
  • Available for and actively seeking work.
  • Under the State Pension age

Family Benefits 

Some key benefits include:

  • Child Benefit: Regular payments to help with the cost of raising a child.
  • Maternity and Paternity Pay and Leave: Financial support and leave entitlements for new parents.

  • Childcare Costs: Help with paying for childcare, including Childcare Grant and Care to Learn.
