Fishermens mission - Boston

We are the only national charity caring for the fishing community, both active and retired. We provide 24hr support for emergencies at sea such as a boat sinking or a fisherman being injured at sea. We can support finicially, provide transport, clothes, hospital visits or support behreaved families helping with a listening ear support with funerals and even doing funerals when asked. Apart from emergencey support we support both active and retired fishermen with  financial, pastoral, chaplaincey, mental health and physical health through our Seafit programme. We have access to all sorts of funding and grants throug our close contacts with other maritime charities and organisations such as Trinity House, Seafaerers Hospital Society and SAIL the seafarers citizens advice service. We recieve no Government funding all of our funding comes from fundraising, legacies other maritime organisations such as Seafish or from supporters through our collecting boxes and hopitality champions.

In 1881, the Fishermen’s Mission (also known as the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen – RNMDSF) began its work by going out in a fleet of boats under the banner of ‘Preach the Word, Heal the Sick’ offering food and medical supplies.

We met with fishermen while they worked, trying to alleviate the terrible conditions on board.

Apart from not now going to sea in our own boats the aims have not changed we still provide practical help, pastoral support and chaplancey services to the local fishing communities around the coast of the UK.
