Dementia wristband to improve support for patients accessing urgent and emergency care

Forget-Me-Not blue wristband

If you are living with dementia and attend an emergency department, urgent treatment centre or same day emergency care service in Lincolnshire, staff may offer you a Forget-Me-Not wristband during the initial triage process. The wristband helps hospital staff recognise that someone may need additional support with communication, understanding information or finding your way around the department.

Currently available from emergency departments and urgent treatment centres including:

• Lincoln County Hospital
• Pilgrim Hospital, Boston
• Grantham and District Hospital
• John Coupland Hospital Gainsborough
• County Hospital Louth
• Skegness and District Hospital
• Johnson Community Hospital Spalding
• Same day emergency care (SDEC) services (Lincoln and Boston)

If someone feels they would benefit from a wristband but has not been offered one, they or their carer can let staff know about their dementia diagnosis and ask whether a wristband is available.

Dementia activity bags

Dementia activity bags for patients with dementia have been introduced to emergency departments at Lincoln, Boston and Grantham hospitals. These contain items to engage and distract, such as fidget toys, colouring books and pencils, cards and information resources about dementia for patients and their carers. Designed to help create a calmer experience whilst waiting to receive treatment.  The dementia comfort bag initiative has been funded by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity.
