Young Lives vs Cancer

When a child or young person is diagnosed with cancer, their whole world (and their family’s) can feel like it’s falling apart. Their anxieties are deep. Their education, mental health and social lives suffer. Their futures feel very uncertain.

Support begins with access to a dedicated social care team available by phone, email and live chat, offering personalised guidance on emotional wellbeing, practical issues and managing life during treatment. The charity’s specialist social workers help with schooling or work concerns, family dynamics, housing, travel, benefits advice and access to local services. Financial grants are offered to help with extra costs associated with cancer, such as travel, parking, meals and essential items.

Young Lives vs Cancer also provides free “Homes from Home” accommodation near major treatment centres so families can stay close together during hospital visits. The charity supports young people aged 16–24 to connect with peers through group activities and participation opportunities designed to build confidence and reduce isolation. Additional services include bereavement support for families following the loss of a child or young person, and advocacy work to improve services and policies affecting young people with cancer.
