Alford Focal Point and Library
The Hub is now a registered Charity and supports the people living in and around Alford. The hub has a successful Befriending service who do home visits as well as supporting people with prescription collections, hospital discharges, practical support, provide medication taking reminders, wellbeing checks and reducing social isolation. They also offer respite sitters providing carers time to fulfil other tasks and take a break from their caring responsibilities alongside also supporting people shielding or isolating due to health issues, hospital appointments or contraction.The hub stocks walkers, sticks and wheelchairs for those who have no yet received one from their hospital/ medical centre. They also have a uniform and baby bank which are both free of charge and not means tested. All uniforms are washed and packaged before being given and both banks staff are able to signpost to Citizens advice.The Hub also has a Virtual Community Centre which is accessible through Facebook via www.facebook.com/groups/alfordhub which acts as a noticeboard and interaction Centre for any groups and events locally. The Facebook site also holds:Weekly Virtual Knit and Natter Sessions where whether you knit or not you can enjoy others company (Accessible through the Facebook site and by pressing the ROOM tab).Weekly Coffee and Chat sessions offer conversation and company whilst enjoying a coffee in the persons own home, offering friendship and laughter (Accessible through Facebook and by pressing the ROOM tab).Free Webinars where national charities provide information on topics such as Benefits, Debt, Budgeting and Financial Help.Basic Computer Skills is another service provided offering basic computer training and help with operating computers and smartphones.
