Friends Against Scams (National Trading Standards)

A scam team initiative aiming to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities. Police and Trading Standards working in partnership. To become a friend attend a short training session. Online learning also available.For victims of scams (which is mostly financial) telephone 101. Police will visit and they or we can refer to Operation Revive Co-ordinator on 01522 558050 but okay to start with 101 as it needs to be registered. Mel Cowell and Nicholas Bates are covering the Revive project. There is a team of volunteers who are trained to stay connected with victims for as long as it takes. Letters can be opened, money sorted etc. Volunteers have previously worked across various forces or military in some cases. Not enough reporting of scams and not enough checking of statements to realise it's happening under people's noses.
