Dementia Action Week 18 - 24 May 2026

Dementia Action Week is an annual awareness campaign in the UK, led by Alzheimer’s Society. It focuses on encouraging people to act on dementia by seeking help, supporting others, improving understanding and reducing stigma.

This page hosts a range of support, information and advice, and details of dementia friendly activities and events taking place in and around your local area.

What is dementia?

There are many types of dementia, and everyone is affected differently. You'll find information here on symptoms, stages, treatments and risk factors.

The word 'dementia' describes a set of symptoms that, over time, can affect memory, problem-solving, completion of daily tasks, language and behaviour.

Dementia can be caused by many different diseases. These diseases affect the brain in different ways, resulting in different types of dementia.

It's important to remember that everyone experiences dementia differently.

Find out more about dementia, including symptoms, diagnosis and support options, on the Alzheimer's Society website.
