Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes help the armed forces community live well after service. Help for Heroes is an armed forces charity that works with veterans the across the UK – in people’s homes, communities and online. We understand the difficulties people face when starting a new life after leaving the military. Finding work, somewhere to live, a purpose, and a place in society, can feel overwhelming.

We have community clinical teams to help with physical and mental health issues and we run sporting and social activities across the UK, and online, to combat loneliness and isolation. Our free online courses and self-help guides give people life skills so they can live independently. Our support gives people the skills, confidence and knowledge to make a success of life in the civilian world.

The things we can help with include:

Sport and social activities in your area

We run a range of free sporting and social events across the UK for veterans and families, bringing people together where they live. There is a wide choice of local and online activities including swimming, walking, wheelchair sports, water sports, our choir, photography, cookery, and a whole lot more. We also run regular veteran cafes to meet up for a brew and a chat.

Physical health

Our experienced team of community nurses and occupational therapists can help when injury or a medical condition make daily tasks a struggle. They can help get the right equipment, help make sense of medical jargon and help find ways to improve quality of life.

Mental health and wellbeing

Our team of mental health professionals are available for support and to help improve mental wellbeing.

Online courses and self-help guides

Our online Recovery College offers free online courses and self-help guides on a wide range of topics that are aimed at developing the skills and knowledge needed to lead a happy and healthy life.

Welfare

We can help with applying for benefits and understanding what help is available, as well as support with employment or housing, all coordinated by our Case Managers.

Grants

We might be able to help with some financial costs to make life easier for things like home modifications, specialist mobility equipment or things that help you better access healthcare.
