Mindspace Stamford
We are a small mental health and well-being charity located in Stamford, Lincolnshire. We exist to support the whole of the community in our town and surrounding villages to maintain positive mental health and well-being.
Our overall goal is to improve the well-being of our town in a way that does not equal reliance on primary and secondary healthcare services. Stamford is a very pretty, historical market town but this leads to profound misconceptions and masks a number of inequalities. Whilst there are pockets of affluence, there is social deprivation. Some areas are ranked within the 4th lowest decile on the Index of Multiple Deprivation. The risk of suffering poor mental health and well-being is growing for the people who live here. In the 12 months to August 21, 373 residents in our PCN (Primary Care Network) area have been referred to crisis services. 757 Stamford residents self-referred into IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) and there were 507 referrals to the community mental health team.
We advocate the NHS 5 Ways to Well-being and believe that through consciously and proactively taking up opportunities to learn, to be present (mindful), to be active, to give to others and, most crucially, to connect, then the mental well-being of individuals and our community can be protected and enhanced. We are enormously proud of our 2021 achievements. Despite the challenges of Covid-19 we were able to offer 3293 instances of support across a varied programme of activities including walking, our ‘open doors’ tea and chat sessions, creative activities, boxing, men's nights, ‘socials’ for 18 – 25-year-olds and so many more.
