This page provides details of the transport options that are available in Lincolnshire and schemes which offer cheaper or easier access to transport.

Buses

Concessionary Bus Pass

The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) allows all eligible older and disabled people to travel for free during off peak (9.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday and all day on weekends and bank holidays) scheduled services anywhere in England.

Callconnect

An image of a Callconnect busCallconnect is a rural on-demand bus service available for anyone, of any age, and for any reason. The service is designed to improve transport opportunities in rural communities and market towns where conventional bus services are limited or infrequent.

Callconnect is generally unable to provide journeys where there is already a frequent commercial bus service.

You can use your concessionary bus pass on Callconnect buses and they are also able to accommodate wheelchair users. If you wish to travel with a wheelchair you must make contact with Callconnect before booking a journey for your wheelchair to be assessed to ensure it meets the necessary safety regulations and size requirements.

The Callconnect service serves small hamlets, remote villages, rural communities and market towns allowing passengers in these areas to connect to towns, cities and travel hubs and continue their journeys further.

Bookings with the service can be made at least one hour and up to seven days in advance. Callconnect are currently offering £3 for every single-journey fare in Lincolnshire through to the end of 2025.

Community Transport and Voluntary Car Schemes

Community transport can be provided by a range of services designed to meet the needs of individuals who find it difficult to use traditional public transport through limited mobility.

These services are often provided by voluntary and community sector organisations and are supported by both volunteers and paid staff.

Many community schemes offer options which allow individuals to attend community groups to support their hobbies and interests or easily access their local high street.

The Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Partnership (LCVP) supports community schemes to recruit volunteers and supports them to develop throughout Lincolnshire.

Lincoln Area Dial-a-Ride is an accessible minibus service offering door-to-door services using wheelchair-accessible minibuses for individuals with mobility issues who cannot use public transport.

The scheme operates within six miles of Lincoln and a voluntary car scheme is offered in other areas of Lincolnshire.

Lincoln area Dial-a-Ride provide three main services:

East Midlands Ambulance Service Volunteer DriversThe East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) currently provides Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) in Lincolnshire.

The EMAS Volunteer Car Service is an integral and valued part of NEPTS, providing an invaluable transport service to the community for patients with medical needs, and who would otherwise be unable to get to their appointments.

EMAS are continually looking for volunteer drivers to use their own car to take patients to and from hospital appointments.

Trains

All train service and timetable information for Lincolnshire is available on either the National Rail website or the East Midlands Railway website.

National Railcards

National Rail offers railcards which can save you a 1/3 off the cost of most standard and first class rail fares.

Cycle Hire in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire is a great place to cycle. You can hire a range of different bicycles from various providers across the county.

Wheels for Life

Wheels for Life is a scheme which allows you to receive a bike from a donor, or donate a pre-loved bike of your own for someone else to benefit from. More information on this scheme is available in the dropdown below.

Wheels for Life logoWheels for Life is a programme for bike donation which is taking pre-loved bikes and bringing them back to a usable condition for them to be gifted to people who do not have the opportunity to enjoy the varied benefits of owning and using a bike.

The scheme is running in hubs around Lincolnshire including: The Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham; Tonic Health in Holbeach; Support for Ukraine Lincolnshire in Lincoln; One NK in North Hykeham; Better Gym in Sleaford; Low Carbon in Louth and Magna Vitae in Skegness.

The scheme encourages people to donate their unloved and unused bikes to support others who can benefit from owning a bike. It is recommended that bikes donated are adult and older children’s bikes in a useable and repairable condition.

All bikes being rehomed are gifted to people in travel poverty where having a bike will make a significant impact on their daily lives, whether it be as a means of transport to get to work or the shops, or where it will give them a means to meet up with others, be involved in the local community, all while having an opportunity to get in a few more active minutes while in the saddle.

Bikes donated to the scheme, once serviced, are rehomed to people who will benefit the most from having a bike to use as a form of transport.

Cycle Storage in Lincoln

Lincoln Cycle Hub is situated at Lincoln railway station (map) and provides safe storage for 196 bikes. It also has a toilet and changing facilities, making it easy to combine cycling and trail travel. A lifetime access key fob costs £10, which can be purchased from the Lincoln Station ticket office.

St Marks Cycle Storage is situated at St Marks lower-level car park (map) and provides secure and free storage for 104 bikes. To sign up for a free membership, simply take some photo identification, proof of address and a contact number along to the ticket booth located near to the entrance of the multi-storey car park and someone will set you up with fingerprint access. The storage facility can then be accessed 24/7. CCTV is in operation at all times at this location.

Lincoln Park and Ride

The Park and Ride in Lincoln allows people travelling by car from the North of Lincoln to park for free in Waitrose (Searby Road, Lincoln, LN2 4DS) and continue to the city centre by paying for the bus.

You don't have to travel by car or park in Waitrose to use the bus service.

Running from Monday – Saturday, the Park and Ride in Lincoln starts from Waitrose on Searby Road. Buses run every 15 minutes, and stop at the following locations:

  • Nettleham Road: The inbound stop is adjacent to KFC, opposite the Waitrose car park
  • Northgate: Next to Lincoln Cathedral
  • Broadgate: Inbound only for the city centre
  • Lincoln Bus Station: For the High Street and St Marks Shopping Centre

The first bus departs Waitrose at 6.48am during the week, and 7.48am on Saturdays. The last return bus will leave Lincoln Bus Station at 6.20pm.

Lincoln Walk and Ride

The Walk and Ride bus (sometimes referred to as 'Steep Hill Shuttle' or 'Castle Shuttle') takes you to the cathedral quarter without having to walk up Steep Hill. The Walk and Ride operates during the day Monday to Saturday (except public holidays).

The service is fully accessible and can accommodate wheelchairs. The Walk and Ride begins at The Guildhall and Stonebow on the Lincoln High Street, outside The Works (a stationary and bookstore), and stops off at multiple tourist hot spots including: Lincoln Cathedral, Newport Arch, The Lawn, and completes its journey at the Tourist Information Centre outside the main entrance to Lincoln Castle.
