Bathrooms can get damp because everyday activities, especially showering, produce a lot of warm, moist air in a small, enclosed space. When this humid air hits cold surfaces like tiles, mirrors, walls and ceilings, it turns into condensation. If the moisture isn’t removed quickly, it lingers in the room and can lead to dampness, mould growth, peeling paint, damaged plaster and unpleasant smells. An extractor fan helps by pulling the moist air out of the bathroom and replacing it with drier air from elsewhere in the home. This reduces humidity levels, prevents condensation from forming, and keeps surfaces dry. A good extractor fan, used during and after a shower, can significantly reduce the risk of damp and mould and help maintain a healthier bathroom environment. Opening a bathroom window will also help with ventilation.

Cost

£ Making sure that you control moisture released into the air by baths and showers by running extractor fans when needed, is a low-cost way of helping reduce the risk of condensation, damp and mould. Extractor fans are relatively inexpensive to run.
