East Lindsey Dementia Friendly Community (DFC)
"A dementia-friendly community is a city, town or village where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported. Dementia-friendly communities are vital in helping people live well with dementia and remain a part of their community." (Alzheimer's UK)
In East Lindsey we have a network of individuals and organisations who are working together to improve things for people living with dementia. The priorities of the East Lindsey Dementia Friendly Community are to:
- ensure that information relating to dementia is available and shared effectively.
- improve the support, and access to support, for people living with dementia and their carers.
- increase training and awareness about living with dementia across sectors and in the community.
- organise a range of activities locally, including ones for people living with dementia and ones to raise awareness.
We also have seven dementia cafés in East Lindsey, these are sometimes known as memory cafés. Dementia Cafés provide a safe and welcoming space for those living with dementia and their carers. It is a place where they can socialise, find support and take part in a range of activities.
