Ventilation: extractor fans and cooker hoods

Everyday activities, especially things like cooking on the hob, or boiling a kettle, produce a lot of warm, moist air. When this humid air hits cold surfaces like tiles, walls and ceilings, it turns into condensation. If this moisture isn’t removed quickly, it can remain in the room and can lead to dampness, mould growth, peeling paint, damaged plaster and unpleasant smells. An extractor fan or cooker hood helps by pulling the moist air out of the kitchen. This reduces humidity levels, helps prevents condensation from forming, and keeps surfaces dry. A good extractor fan or cooker hood, used during cooking, can help reduce the risk of damp and mould and maintain a healthier kitchen environment. Opening a kitchen window when cooking will also help with ventilation.
