Could you open your home to people fleeing the war in Ukraine?
Hundreds of people in Lincolnshire have generously opened their homes to those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Could you become a host?
To sponsor a visa for a Ukrainian to come to the UK you should meet two main criteria:
- you should be a British citizen, an Irish citizen, or have settled status in the UK (meaning you have the right to live in the UK permanently)
- you should be able to offer suitable accommodation for a period of at least 6 months
Lincolnshire County Council will arrange a property inspection to check that the accommodation you are offering is suitable – we will also arrange for DBS background checks to be completed on all people aged 16+ living in your house.
As well as new guests coming from Ukraine, we also have many Ukrainians now established in Lincolnshire who will be seeking new hosts as their current hosting arrangements come to an end. These guests are often already living and settled within their local community, and they may be in work with children in school. Hosting a guest who has been in the UK for some time already means you may not have to support your guest with various administrative tasks, such as opening bank accounts, applying for universal credit or arranging school places. If you wish to host a Ukrainian who has been in the UK for some time already Lincolnshire County Council will still need to arrange for a property inspection and DBS checks.
