Air Brick
Ventilation: air bricks
Ventilation: air bricks
Air bricks are specially shaped, ventilated bricks (they have holes through them, usually in a grid or waffle pattern) which are installed in external walls, usually near ground level. The purpose of air bricks is to help the air flow and ventilation of homes, and to reduce the risk of damp and condensation. Air bricks should not be blocked up or covered, as this can lead to reduced ventilation and a much greater chance of damp, mould and potentially structural damage to your home.
Risk
Risk
Damp can pose health risks as it can lead to high humidity and mould growth. Breathing in mould spores can cause respiratory problems and can worsen existing health conditions such as allergies and asthma. Some groups of people, such as children and babies and people with medical conditions such as asthma, can be at greater risk, so it is important to tackle condensation, damp and mould.
