Putting extra insulation in your loft is an effective way of improving the energy efficiency of your home. Layers of loft insulation are laid in your attic: current recommendations are that loft insulation should be 270mm thick. Installing loft insulation might be a job you are confident to do yourself, or you can hire someone to help. If you have damp in your loft, flat roofs or a loft conversion you should employ a professional to help. If you use the loft for storage, you can fit insulation and then install raised boards over this to allow you to store possessions- but you need to leave room for ventilation between the insulation and boards.
